TRY-NET PROJECT

"TRY-NET" - A Small Net Deployed from a Fishng Vessel to Test the Waters -
An appropriate description of this EXPLORATORY PROJECT.

10.02.09 0931 hrs EST - And an appropriate way to launch this project !
Mr. & Mrs. Phillips, Phillips Seafoods, Swansboro, NC, long time operators of coastal trawlers and a retail outlet known for its fresh, carefully dressed seafoods . The attached Picture was taken after collecting their "blood spot" samples, which were immediately mailed to the Lab. see www.OmegaQuant.com.

Their store may be the only fresh seafood market on the East Coast that offers "over-the-counter" fish oil, a carefully selected, natural product - VITALCHOICE Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Oil , www.VitalChoice.com through special arrangements that also make this exploratory project possible.

For over a year, posters have been on display in this seafood market that advocate supplementary use of fish oil via softgels, or in liquid form, to assure that adequate amounts of essential Omega-3 fatty acids, (EPA & DHA) are delivered along with low-fat seafoods to assure optimum health and longevity.

Now, to embark on a detailed examination of how to make twice/week seafood dinners, advocated by AHA, more productive, we are selecting persons with outstanding professional capabilities, culinary experience, lifestyles. Each person to serve as An Individual, Perceptive Control.

PATIENCE DEAR PEOPLE! ADVISORIES WILL FOLLOW.

Wild Alaskan Fish Oil BOOSTER for NC Coastal Seafoods?

Exploratory project, soon to be launched, needs healthy adult participants, non-smokers, prudent diet habits, careful health-motivated lifestyles, mostly, not entirely, persons from coastal Onslow and Carteret County, NC areas.

Participation will not limit normal activities, except to collect two bloodspot samples at home, in special mailing kits, initially and after three months, for Omega-3 Index determinations. During the three month interval, participants will be asked to eat two coastal seafood meals/week (individual choices - finfish or shellfish) supplemented with fish oil, our application suggestions.

ESSENTIAL! : Discover the meaning and importance of these trials:
Visit and Explore www.omegaquant.com
.
Participants, initially in the "Desirable Omega-3 Index range", will not be asked to continue except to answer questions to help explain elevated scores. The rest will be asked to continue in the three month trials, involving prudent diet patterns that include local seafoods twice a week, as recommended by AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION, but now boosted by a natural, wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Oil (an attempt) to equalize the EPA/DHA playing field.

NOTE : This exploratory project is a continuation of the Fish Oil Therapy Project (FOTP), sponsored by Wildegeest Foundation. Participants will not be charged: for the fish oil, or for the Omega-3 Index determinations.

LAND STEWARDSHIP VS OWNERSHIP

Land stewardship is the practice of carefully managing land usage
to ensure that natural systems are maintained and enhanced
for future generations. -
www.landstewardship.org/learnabout.asp .

Early 1970's - Your narrator attended a meeting with landowners
whose properties were said to be polluting nearby oyster beds. They said,
"We own this land, butt out." I replied that I considered it presumptuous
to claim unregulated ownership of any part of this planet, and as a landowner,
I intended to be a responsible steward. Thirty years elapsed before I could
actively undertake measures to dedicate my remaining land, for truly
beneficial uses, now and in the future.

Quarter-Century Later - Ebook, "WILDEGEEST! A Search for Last Places"
describes how my farmland was poisoned by tenant farmers, steeped in
chemicals for growing cotton, while I was away. Much of the nearby land
had been taken over by developers. There was an obvious obligation to protect
nearby residents from uncontrolled toxic chemicals.

Pesticide-free EarthWise Farm was started and then became part of
WILDEGEEST FOUNDATION where its application, as a producer of ingredients
required for longer, healthier lives, is closely associated with the long range
research efforts of the foundation: - To promote mature lifestyles for persons
over fifty to encourage an active citizen's role throughout their aging process,
and to further investigate fish oils and the proper use of fishery products,
as an essential part of the whole.

NO CUTOFF DATE - Come see! How the land has benefitted from our soil
improvement efforts, several hundred "hedgerow" trees have doubled in size,
and the buildings are designed for present and future investigations.

THE ME ME ME SOCIETY

"Herded by fear and greed" by Jessica Irvine, July 25, 2009
The Sydney Morning Herald, Business Day.

Concerning the global meltdown, she notes : The premise of mainstream economics --that we're rational beings making informed calculations about how to increase our utility - has fallen spectacularly short.

She quotes J. M. Keynes who was the first to document the animal spirits and herd instincts that drive human behavior, - "which turns out to be rather messy". During the great depression,
in 1936, he wrote that people make their decisions "not as the outcome of weighted average of
quantitative benefits multiplied by quantitative probabilities, but on ANIMAL SPIRITS -
a spontaneous urge to action rather than inaction.

Were ANIMAL SPIRITS the guidelines for our economists and budget directors when we threw away our wooden guns, and entered World War II with its staggering costs? But is it fair to compare a wartime threat with present-day threats to our society?

Yes, if the threat is of the same magnitude when measured in "body counts". As David A. Kessler, MD, author of "The End of Overeating. Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite" has pointed out, "Two out of three American adults are now either overweight or obese. Excess weight increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease, cancer (of the breast, colon, esophagus, kidney, and uterus), stroke, gallbladder disease, arthritis, and more," and then he explains how the food industry leads us to overeat.

We could say more, about how greed and self-interest is causing neglect of millions of needy persons, but space is limited.

TREADING HAZARDOUS TURF

OUR ENDANGERED FOOD SUPPLY

Motivated by The Diane Rehm Show, 07.08.09 @10:00 AM
Concerning outbreaks of Salmonella & E-coli contamination
from eggs, nuts, processed cookie dough - Need Tougher F. S. Standards.

Persons invited for comments included Michael Taylor, Senior Advisor to FDA (strong previous ties to MONSANTO, (for details see http:/www.politicalfriendster.com), New York Times writer, Gardner Harris, and Caroline Smith DeWaal, Director of Food Safety, Center for Science in the Public Interest.

The discussion made it evident that FDA and USDA have been unable to provide the number of inspections and laboratory services needed to warn about widespread food contaminations that have caused serious illnesses and deaths. Increased surveillance, a step in the right direction, but is that enough?

THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM

Harris's NY Times June 12, 2009 article, "A federal study identified chicken as the most common source of food poisoning in the United States in 2006", based on a Center for Disease Control and Prevention report issued a few days before, and also implicating leafy vegetables, fruits and nuts.

Tim O'Brian in the ECOLOGIST, June 1, 2002, Factory Farming and Human Health, stated that "In the range of areas, from feeding regimes, to animal housing, to the use of drugs in pursuit of productivity, human health may be threatened by factory farming. Imposing industrial standards on farm animals may quite literally be producing fatal flaws in the end product - OUR FOOD.

And what about growing crops? Disease-loaded waste products from these poultry and animal farms are polluting the atmosphere, our water supply, and farm land. Even our gardens are threatened by the wrong choice of manures.

Wildegeest Foundation - http://www.wildegeestfoundation.org/

WILDEGEEST! - synonym for - EXCELSIOR!

The inspirational basis for the ever-onward battle-cry, WILDEGEEST!
is Longfellow's poem, EXCELSIOR! (1843); Latin/Greek phrases - "Higher, more elevated".

Our introductory statement as a foundation : "GREETINGS! I hope you're aboard as seekers for a longer, better life, for those past fifty, and for those isolated, lonely, and victimized by the hard place, both determined to remain a vital part of society, unthreatened by
age-based segregation ."

Dr. Lawrence Hanks, Ph. D., Dept. Political Science, Indiana University stated, "The miraculous advancement of modern medicine has created a cohort of older Americans who are more energetic and vibrant than their predecessors. Much of their energy has been channeled into the protection of their interest. Thus, issues of mandatory retirement, Medicare, and Medicaid, are issues of vital importance to American politicians.

Such "issues" are only part of the complexities and attitude readustments needed to achieve equal rights, equal treatment for all U. S. citizens - a new stage in our history! Alan Pope of Duquest University, in "The Elderly in Modern Society, A Cultural Phychological Reading" stated that "History has demonstrated a dramatic reduction in respect and veneration for the elderly members of Western Societies. According to David Hackett Fisher and David Cowgill, historical sources located this decline in industrial and economic factors."

LOCAVORE

Word of the Year 2007 - Oxford/American Dictionary

"Should you be a locavore?" asks U. of Cal. at Berkeley, Wellness Letter, July, 2009.
"One of the hot issues in food shopping these days is locally grown food ...
a locavore is one who eats only food grown within a radius of 100 miles."

Sorry Folks, the lower U. S. 48 states' regions are too varied and complex for a 100 mile
limitation, unless it applies only to the "garden spots". The lower 48 states contain about
340 million acres of "cropland", which includes "harvested, crop failure, and cultivated
summer fallow". "Total agricultural land" is 1171 million acres, while "Total non-ag. land"
is 723 million acres - ( Year-2003 statistics). There's lots of room for "home grown",
but the "radius definition" requires regional and logistical adjustments.

The article mentions the inconsistencies of Locavore. "Locally grown fruits and vegetables picked just before you eat them will almost certainly taste better than those shipped 2000 miles. and if you buy only local, variety will be limited most of the year..Frozen and even canned fruits and vegetables are nutritious too. In conclusion, a "Word to the Wise - One sure way to cut carbon emissions while improving your health : Eat less red meat. Beef is the most
environmentally expensive food of all. According to Scientific American, "producing the annual beef diet of the average American emits as much greenhouse gas as a car driving more than 1,800 miles."

Wildegeest Foundation's EarthWise Farm, located on Bogue Sound within a mile of the Atlantic Ocean, can readily exceed the expectations of LOCAVORES. When the "one hundred mile radius is swung full circle, one-half of the encompassed area to the south is a prolific source of nutritious seafoods, and the coastal land to the north grows a wide variety of vegetables. Soon we will issue an Email bulletin regarding the farm's 2009 season, and how its production can help provide a meaningful life for persons past fifty.

NUTRITIONAL SCIENCE**PRACTITIONERS*

* Practitioner - One who practices an art or profession.

** Science - Knowledge, as of facts, phenomena, laws, and proximate causes,
gained and verified by exact observation, organized experiment, and correct thinking.

HARK! Two skilled, observant writers are on the bandwagon again! As if
Eric Schlosser's "Fast Food Nation" (2001) and Michael Pollen's
"The Omnivore's Dilemma (2006) carried insufficient warnings
that the American consumer is seriously endangered by an
UNNATURAL FOOD SUPPLY - A burden to our Health System.

And now there's a documentary of these journalistic warnings. MOVIES,
EATER'S DIGEST, Food, Inc. as described in Time Magazine, 06.22.09, P. 104.

Let there be credit where credit is due - These PRACTITIONERS excell
at telling Americans the score.

But where are the university-trained NUTRITIONAL SCIENTISTS?

There was a time when "land grant colleges" were completely involved
in the practicalities of farm management and safe food supply.
Your narrator witnessed a loyalty shift at a U. of MD. Nutrition Conference
in the late sixties. The AGENDA was over-loaded with pharmaceutical representatives
and invitations to corporate-hospitality-suites.

After a mind-boggling series of introductions to medicated feeds, the audience
respectfully stood up and greeted Dr. F. D. Morrison (Cornell), author of the classic,
Feeds and Feeding, 22nd and final edition, 1958.

Dr. Morrison was visibly upset with the presentations, and emphasized the critical
importance of range land for safe and sane animal husbandry.
The tide was obviously running against this nationally respected animal scientist.
Undoubtedly, one of the turning points, when land grant colleges
abandoned their historical mission, and slipped into corporate hands.

TheVITALCHOICEWAY

TheVITALCHOICEWAY

to Improve the Health Benefits of Seafoods

American Heart Association (AHA) Recommendation:
Eat a Seafood Meal Twice Weekly - A wise suggestion.
SEAFOODS - fresh, frozen, preserved, contain
essential nutrients, not always available in other foods.

But Fish and Shellfish Vary
in content of Marine Long-Chain Omega-3 Fatty Acids,
needed to Maximize the Health Benefits
predicted by reliable research.

GIVE SEAFOOD DINNERS A BOOST!
(Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Oil to the Rescue)

We urge you to rely on competent medical advice, if available, or to
carefully follow dosage directions recommended by reliable fish oil producers.
On seafood dinner days, the recommended daily number of capsules
should be swallowed for each portion, just before mealtime.

Two portions of seafood/per week, supplemented with fish oil,
may satisfy much of the weekly omega-3 requirement,
since the substances that occur naturally in all seafoods
may boost the biological availability of the added oil.
WAIT AND SEE!!

TWO PLUS TWO EQUALS SIX?

Proverb - 2:2-6

More benefits of Wisdom, for the upright will live in the land, and the blameless
Will live in it.
But the Wicked will be cut off from the land, and the unfaithful
Will be torn from it.

Q. - "Hey Narrator - Why no Email Bulletins recently?
A.- Resistand clutch peddle, power takeoff on tractor - Caused painful sprain.
As you know, the leg bone is connected to the head bone.

But in no way did this reduce my concern that the endemic shortage of
Essential long chain omega-3 fatty acids supplied by seafoods
in the average American diet, is causing much pain and suffering.

"Eat fish twice a week", or "Supplement with Fish Oils". Empty words when applied
to unidentified fishery products (species, freshness, processing method, quality).
The consumer needs to know "suitability" in every instance.

The key word may be "Bioavailability".
Low-fat fish, and shelllfish, are not usually considered suitable for the
fish twice weekly recommendation, although even the low-fat varieties contribute
beneficial levels of omega-3 fatty acids, excellent nutrition, and substances likely
to improve the bioavailability of fish oil supplements if taken just before a seafood dinner.

Example : Krill Oil, extracted from tiny shrimp-like creatures, includes substances
other than triglycerides, that greatly improve bioavailability.

Tom Steer, an English nutritionist, said, "While you may have a certain amount of nutrient
within a food, what is actually absorbed may be less. Bioavailability means how much
of that nutrient within a food is usefully absorbed."

SO LET'S PUT TWO AND TWO TOGETHER
AND AIM FOR SIX.

"If you're going to cover an estimated 48 million uninsured Americans in the world's costliest medical system How do you pay for it?

For starters, renovate, clarify, focus what is on the books. Universities, Medical Facilities, Staff Members Used to Advertise Unproven Research Not Validated by Responsible Government Agencies

CONSUMER LAB. - "Product Review - Resveratrol Supplements (including red wine, Grape and Polygonium Sources)" An excellent, informative report, recommended reading, including the statement: "No one knows the right dose of resveratrol that is beneficial and safe for people."

Nutrition Action Health Letter, March, 2009, Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), page 9, "RESVERATROL", effectively describes the unresolved status of the subject - how the Associated Press headline (Nov., 2006) reported, "Big fat doses of red wine extract help obese mice stay happy, healthy and live longer."

The article goes on to report that last August, "...the researchers who published the headline-grabbing 2006 study quietly released the results of a trial in normal-weight, middle-aged mice fed a normal diet plus reservatrol. This time there was no publicity, probably because the mice didn't live any longer than mice given a placebo."

Same infomation source - We were pleased to read that Felipe Sierra, director of the biology program at National Institute on Aging (NIA) has decided to test it in a program that will take several years. The article ends by quoting his bottom line, "Resveratrol is a very interesting molecule, but its role in aging is still up in the air. There's nothing proven in People - Nothing. "

Year- 1934 : Dr. William Thornton, Professor, The Johns Hopkins University, asked Ted, "What's that tobacco leaf doing on your lab. bench?" Ted replied, "A friend with a tobacco warehouse asked me to check its moisture content." "Young man", said Dr. Thornton, "The Johns Hopkins is a research institution, we do not do commercial work - get rid of that sample."
After that, my respect for the sanctity of basic research was set in STONE.

SEEDY TIMES CAN GROW BENEFITS

These are the times that try men's & women's souls:
A virtual War to be Confronted

Fallback No. 1 - Assign space, a windowsill, backyard however small, a field, and plan a VICTORY GARDEN - It's not too early to sprout a selection of nutritious spices, herbs, greens, or the larger vegetable varieties if there is space, or, in limited space , consider a healthy collection of SPROUTS grown in jars.

Fallback No. 2 - Abandon sedentary lifestyle - "The 21st Century Plague", according to Healthy People 2010, "Poor nutrtion and lack of appropriate physical activity are major causes of obesity and diabetes, which are considered national epidemics."

Fallback No.3 - Save $$$ on vitamins. The New York Times, 11.05.07, T. P. Pope, "The Case for Real Foods". Now that several vitamin studies have produced disappointing results, there's growing belief that food is more than just a sum of nutrient parts, and observational studies have shown that diets rich in fruits, vegetables, and fish, among other things, are associated with better health.

Fallback No. 4 - Save $$$$$ - Abandon Sugary Beverages - "People are taking in enormous amounts of calories in liquid form," according to Sara Bleich, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, "If you're looking for an easy way to lose weight, just stop drinking soda and other sweetened beverages".

Google="SOMETIMES, FOOD LABELS LIE,=Google Search (239,000 Hits - 01.26.09)

USA Today, 01.21.09, "Experts say dangerous U. S. produced foods are comparatively few, but producers have been known to practice "economic adulteration" - adding a little to their bottom line by padding, thinning or substituting something cheap for something expensive." For example, Seafood -

"Fish is the most frequently faked food Americans buy. In the business, it's called "species adulteration" - Selling a cheaper fish such as pen-raised Atlantic Salmon as wild Alaskan Salmon. Of 23 supposedly wild-caught salmon bought nationwide in 2005-2006, only 10 were "wild". Chicago Sun Times tested fish at 17 sushi restaurants and found the "red snapper" was mostly tilapia. U. of NC scientists found 77% of fish labeled "red snapper" were actually something else.

Another example in our search for well identified foods to lighten the load on our Health System:- Extra Virgin Olive Oil. "It's one of the most frequently counterfeited food products," says Martin Stitsman, FDA's consumer safety officer for edible oils.......

Hey, shouts your narrator, who's in charge? Federal Trade Commission states that they do not resolve individual consumer complaints, and FDA's safety officer is simply reporting widespread adulteration of olive oils! Where does the buck stop?

YELLOW PROFESSIONALISM (YP)

The New England J. of Med. Vol. 316:1315-1319, 05.21.87, J. M. Reade and R. M. Ratzan - Yellow professionalism. Advertising by Physicians in the yellow pages : We found that a mean of 12 percent of "specialists" listed in the yellow pages were not board certified.

J. Med. Ethics, 2006, Jan.;32(1):26-28 : A profession selling out: lamenting the paradigm shift in physician advertising.

The Structure of Scientific Revolution, Thomas Kuhn, 1962: ...fathered , defined and popularized the concept of paradigm shift as a change from one way of thinking to another.....It just doesn't happen, but rather is driven by agents of change.
www.taketheleap.com/define.html

As reported Jan. 13, Tom Daschle (TD) offered this introductory comment at the Jan. 9 U. S. Senate Confirmation Hearing: I think we need to change the paradigm in this country on health. It starts with the big picture belief. The paradigm needs to be changed from illness to health.

We respectfully suggest to TD that a great deal of highly respected professional support will be required to accomplish this shift, and it's high time that it be applied in the best interests of this nation.

Waste-Not Want-Not for BEST RESULTS

BEST RESULTS require a Carefully Selected Fish Oil, and Wildegeest continues to investigate the "selection" problem. Now in its 3rd year, the "Fish Oil Therapy Project (FOTP)" has confined its testing to a completely natural wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Oil, selected because in composition it appears to be almost identical to the fat present in prime quality Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon.
http://www.vitalchoice.com/

When FOTP was in its planning stages, our initial reason for selecting this oil was that hundreds of reliable investigations indicated wild red salmon to be among the best finfish sources of the essential long chain omega-3 fatty acids. Some of the problems of selecting other fish oils are described in
http://www.wildegeestfoundation.org/

There are suitable alternatives, if professionally selected by MD's who understand that "All fish oils are not created equal".FOTP has concluded that even the best fish oil requires a shove in the right direction to achieveoptimum biological availability. There are varying opinions, but the following is what we recommend:
1. Swallow the softgels before breakfast with the assistance of fat-free buttermilk,or yogurt (as emulsifying agent).
2. Immediately eat a tablespoon of fresh or cooked fruit and berry mix - It can be chopped up and mixed with the yogurt. Natural Antioxidant Choices : blackberry, cherry, grape, grapefruit, kiwi, pineapple, raspberry, trawberry,and/or dried fruits -apricots, dates, prunes. grapefruit, kiwi.

ARTHRITIS NON-PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS NEED FDA APPROVAL

(Over-the counter BARGAIN HUNTERS take heed)

An MD, PhD staff doctor in a famous medical institution asked, "Are all fish equally close to the heart? Is it fair to suggest to our patients that all over-the-counter fish oil preparations have the same cardio protective action?"

Wildegeest poses a similar question, as it applies to Arthritis , the focus of the AIT STUDY conducted by National. Center for Complementary & Alternative Medicine, which resulted in the conclusions expressed in U. of Cal., Berkeley, Wellness etter. Vol. 24, Issue 3, Dec. 2008, & The Johns Hopkins Medical Letter, Health after Fifty, Vol. 20, Issue 12, Feb. 2009.

U. of Cal. :Glucosamine : the news is in. We suggest you forget about glucosamine and chondroitin unless you are willing to pay $20 or $30 or more a month for what is probably a placebo effect. If you already take these supplement and find they help, continue with them, but consider stopping for a while to see if there's a difference.

JHU :A Negative Verdict for Glucosamine and Chondroitin Supplements, But be aware that well-designed trials done by independent of supplement anufacturers have not been able to prove these supplements work, despite their enormous popularity. Moreover, pills can cost more than $30 a month, this is a lot of money to spend on what may be a placebo effect.

But the same government agency that has permitted the unrestricted sale of this
poorly researched G&C Medication, has neglected its obligation to monitor the variable quality of "over the counter FISH OILS", thus placing at risk an important claim supported by peer reviewed research, that Carefully Selected Fish Oil is a valuable Medication for Arthritis.

WILDEGEEST FOUNDATION -

Fish Oil Therapy - A step in our Healthcare System

(01-13-09)

The Fish Oil Therapy Project (FOTP) objective is to spotlight the unique health and longevity potential of the long chain omega-3 fatty acids supplied by fish, and fish oil supplements. There is urgent need for professional advice on how to achieve optimum benefits, since the average American is seriously deficient in the disease-preventing, health-promoting omega-3 fatty acids from ocean fisheries, as discussed in http://www.wildegeestfoundation.org/

Tom Daschle offered this introductory comment at the January 9 Senate Confirmation Hearing : "I think we need to change the paradigm in this country on health. It starts with that big picture belief. The paradigm needs to be changed from illness to wellness."

American Heritage Dictionary of the American Language, 4th Ed. Defines "Preventative Medicine": "The Prevention, treatment, and management of illness and the preservation of mental and physical well-being through the services offered by the medical and allied health professions."

HARK! Another Senate hearing, Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pension, 12.10.08.
Dr. Don Wright, MD, MPH, presented lengthy report which ended as follows:

"The Department's investment in a comprehensive and growing prevention and communication science base sets the stage for health care reform in which the public should be able to expect seamless, coordinated care and the the best support for making healthy decisions that science has to offer. It is accurate to say that whatever the specifics of future efforts to reform American health care, a consensus exists that the system of the future will be founded upon prevention and recognition of its value.
Put another way, if prevention is the future - and it is - then the future is now."

Suggestion :
Tom Daschle should hire Don Wright as POLICY DIRECTOR.
