RESEARCH - YELLOW JOURNALISM (R-YJ)

Year- 1934 : Dr. William Thornton, Professor, The Johns Hopkins University, asked Ted, "What's that tobacco leaf doing on your lab. bench?" Ted replied, "A friend with a tobacco warehouse asked me to check its moisture content." "Young man", said Dr. Thornton, "The Johns Hopkins is a research institution, we do not do commercial work - get rid of that sample."
After that, my respect for the sanctity of basic research was set in STONE.

SORRY ABOUT THE SLIPPAGE, Dr. T.
"The Scientific Life : A Moral History of a Late Modern Vocation", Steven Shapin, Oct. 2008 - reviewed by B. H. Smith, London Review of Books, 002.12.09. "The practices of science, it appears, are increasingly industrial in location, corporate in organization and product, and profit-minded in motivation." There is evidence of regret for earlier values, that insisted that the life of the dedicated pedagogic researcher would be the academic life.
